Super-Elastic Copper-Based and Iron-Based Shape Memory Alloys and Engineered Cementitious Composites for Extreme Events Resiliency

Super-Elastic Copper-Based and Iron-Based Shape Memory Alloys and Engineered Cementitious Composites for Extreme Events Resiliency

Sponsor: Washington State Department of Transportation

This project characterizes the material properties of two shape-memory alloy compositions. Various experiments are performed to determine the superelastic limit, energy dissipation, strength, and activation force of these materials. Additional analyses are performed to determine and compare the behavior of concrete and engineered cementitious composite columns with these shape memory alloys.
