Material Characteristics of Cu-Based Superelastic Alloys for Applications in Bridge Columns to Improve Seismic Performance

Sponsor: United States National Cooperative Highway Research Program

The main objective of this project was to characterize newly developed Cu-Al-Mn superelastic alloys under varying thermomechanical conditions for qualification for use in bridges to improve seismic performance. In addition to low-cycle fatigue tests at varying temperatures, corrosion resistance and coupling mechanisms with conventional steel rebar were studied.
